Mari & Giannis

‘Though Mari and I had known each other for many years, never had we shared so much together!’ reflects Anais Evripioti, Lafete’s Event Planner and Marketing Specialist. ‘From the very first conversation we realized that the image we had for their wedding was a common one! Giannis was completely on board with the theme, so together we began planning their dream day.’

The preparation of the bride was in a beautiful neoclassical house in the center of Syros. The bridal gown designed by Ioanna Kourbela, it was the ideal wedding dress ... airy with ropes which (excuse the pun) ‘tied’ in perfectly with the nautical wedding concept ‘TARSANAS’.

The colours chosen were a sweet salmon and fresh mint. The style of the wedding highly suited Syros, as the party would evolve onto the old shipyard of the island, and with the tables placed among the works of old and new vessels awaiting repair, we got the sense of their will to return to their natural habitat, the sea. The flags that waved clearly showed the guests and passers-by that a big celebration was about to progress underneath them!

The sounds of swing music prevailed above the breeze and the band 'KOULAMAKOUS' quickly brought the crowds onto the makeshift dance floor! The 'Loukoumi-Turkish delight' cocktail that welcomed the guests gave the note of Syros while local dishes combined with Cretan wine and impeccable service immensely satisfied the party people. Traditional Cretan coiled bread adorned colourful tables. Citrus and mint cocktails tickled guests’ palettes. And the barmen warily kept the open bar going until the early hours!

The wedding favour included a ‘cactus’ flower wrapped in craft paper, a Cretan honeyed ‘xerotigano’ pastry while bonbons were tied with adhesive MARI & GIANNIS labels. A thank you tag completed each personalized creation.

As a final touch, there were some flip flops for the ladies who had optimistically chosen high heels for all night dancing.
